Lib Dems are getting things done in government says David Goodwin

With the coalition half way through its term, County Councillor David Goodwin (Guildford South-West) has been taking a look at some of the things he has been especially pleased to see us leading the way on.

“For me the big things are cash in our pockets, and of course our freedoms to be who we are” David told us. “So in Guildford, where we have a lot of older people, the biggest ever rise of £650 a year on the full state pension is a real winner. Young people really need a break, and Vince Cable has done a great job in setting up a new Youth Contract getting them into work with training, work placement and apprenticeships.

It’s also important that people on lower incomes are able to keep more of their earnings which is why we have lifted many people right out of paying tax altogether.”

Turning to other changes which Lib Dems are leading on David was enthusiastic about plans for Equal Marriage. “It is only right that when people want to make a lasting commitment to each other they can marry.” He said.

He also supports the ending of plans for ID cards.
